The City of Edinburgh Music School
The City of Edinburgh Music School is based within Flora Stevenson Primary School and Broughton High School. Entrance to the Music School is by audition and is not managed by Flora’s. Where a child is offered a place at the Music School they will also be offered a place at Flora’s for their main schooling.
The Music School pupils in Flora Stevenson Primary School will spend the majority of their school week in a mainstream mixed ability class. In addition to their weekly class music provision Music School pupils will have around two half hour periods a day of specialist music. This will include individual instrumental lessons, supervised practice and accompaniment plus small group sessions for theory, aural and general musicianship.
Nowhere else in Europe is there a school in the maintained sector which offers a complete specialist music programme from primary to secondary level in two neighbouring centres.
The happy association with Flora Stevenson Primary School and Broughton High School ensures the musical development of our students from an early age within a caring and sensitive framework.
Entrance is by audition. Successful applicants are then involved in intensive training which includes regular practice, various ensembles and individual expert tuition. This paves the way for our students to secure positions in some of the most prestigious colleges, universities, ensembles, orchestras and media organisations in the world.
