The Flora Stevenson Nursery
Quality is at the heart of our Nursery and we provide a relevant and stimulating curriculum in a nurturing and caring environment.
As well as providing spaces to play and learn we are responsive to children’s changeable interests. We recognise that children learn best when they are active and busy and that all children learn and develop at their own rate.
Our curriculum is informed by a Curriculum for Excellence, Child at the Centre and Building the Ambition.
We aim to create a caring and secure environment in which each child feels happy, confident and valued as an individual.
The aims of the Nursery are…
- To provide a secure, caring and happy environment
- To value each child as an individual
- To offer a range of experiences and opportunities to extend the learning process
- To promote partnership between home, nursery and the school
At Flora’s Nursery we see the growing tree as symbolic of the child. The tree sits within the context of the wider world which is shaped by the national and international legislation and frameworks e.g. the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, Building the Ambition and Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC). These provide the child with the rights and give guidance to those who have direct responsibility for the child, the roots. The roots provide the support and stability for the tree to branch out and grow. Each branch represents one of Flora’s values. The leaves expand the meanings of friendship, love learning, honesty, respectful, ambitious and successful. When all these parts unite the tree will blossom and the child can realise our overarching aim “At Flora’s we matter, at Flora’s we achieve.”
