attendance
Regular attendance at nursery is important however if your child is unable to attend nursery please phone the school absence line on 0131 332 1604 or you can e-mail admin@florastevenson.edin.sch.uk If you don’t contact us, we will contact you as we have a duty of care to children enrolled in nursery.
snack
A healthy snack is provided twice a day. Children participate in making the snack and are responsible for clearing the table and doing the dishes.
We use Setting the Table – NHS Health Scotland, the aim is to ensure that children aged 0-5 in childcare settings across Scotland are offered healthy and nutritious meals, snacks and drinks.
All snacks are suitable for vegetarians. If your child has any dietary requirements please inform a member of staff.
lunch
Children are given a free lunch daily. All lunches are vegetarian and are provided by Edinburgh Catering Services. Children receive a hot lunch Monday – Thursday and a packed lunch to take home on a Friday. Below is a sample menu.
health & wellbeing
Please inform the nursery staff if your child has any health concerns, allergies or medical issues.
We work and play in a close environment. Please do not send your child to nursery if they are unwell. Also, if your child has had diarrhoea or vomiting please do not return to nursery until 48 hours after the last bout of sickness.
If your child has an accident at nursery we will record the incident and ask you to sign a copy at pickup. We may also phone you and would be grateful if you could ensure your contact number is kept up to date.
pick up
Your child must be collected by a responsible known adult, aged 16 or over. If someone different is collecting or dropping off your child, please inform a member of the staff or contact the school during the course of the session. We would be grateful if you could collect your child on time. It can be upsetting if your child is left behind after others have gone home.
play
Active learning and purposeful play activities are central to our nursery, we offer free flow play in the nursery.
We love learning outdoors. As well as learning from our own extensive garden and outdoor play area, we also use resources in our local area.
As well as outdoor play your child will have opportunities to paint, play in sand and water, and bake. Some of these activities can be messy so please do not send your child to nursery in their best clothes!
personal learning journals – ejournals
A learning journey…From the moment your child begins their time here at nursery, we create their own personal learning journal which documents their learning, progress and achievements.
We work with you and your child to identify learning goals and review journals with children so that they can recognise their own successes. Please comment on your child’s observations and share any learning and activities from home in the “achievements at home” section.
We would encourage you to access your child’s Learning Journal online, you can click on the link below.
If you need help accessing Learning Journals please see a member of the Early Years team.
feedback
We welcome feedback from parents. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Eleanor Dickson, Depute Head or Sharon McGhee, Head Teacher on 0131 332 1604.
If you feel your concerns are unresolved you can make a complaint to The Care Inspectorate, Stuart House, Eskmills, Musselburgh, EH21 7PB.
